VACAY GUIDE: SAN SEBASTIAN WITH ISABELLE PRESTIA

Posted by on

A resort town of breathtaking beaches with a culinary experience like no other, at Vacay HQ, we are currently obsessing over the coastal town of San Sebastián, situated in the Basque Countryside of Spain.

With a reputation as one of the world’s greatest dining destinations, a favourite travel destination by Spanish royalty and some of the best European beaches, it’s no surprise why we’ve chosen to share our favourite picks of San Sebastián for our Vacay readers.

A Culinary Experience like no other

What we value most about San Sebastián is you don’t need to indulge in luxurious fine dining to experience the innovative culinary experience. So this calls to put on your Vacay Linen Shirt, visit a local bar and enjoy Pintxos (tapas), which are delectable bar snacks involving fresh local ingredients from the surrounding coastal and countryside. Pintxos tapus bar’s line the streets of San Sebastián, so you won’t have a hard time finding a new one to indulge in each night.

Similar to many European cities, dinner is enjoyed much later into the night, as Pintxos, meaning a meal in miniature, was introduced to the culture and is enjoyed as a ‘tie-me-over’ before dinner, or accompanied late into the night with drinks.

Once you’ve indulged in the culinary creativity of the Basque chefs, it’s time to put your Vacay shorts on and head to the seaside of Mundaka, a beach just outside San Sebastián with one of the best surfing waves in the world. Hire boards and take lessons, or if surfing isn’t your scene, keep your Vacay’s on and join in on other water sports such as kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.

Of course, there’s always time to laze on the beautiful beaches. Set yourself up on one the many hills that overlook the beach for breathtaking views and get the perfect Instagram shot.

It’s no surprise why San Sebastián was once a favourite tourism destination for the Spanish Royalty, as in the 19th and 20th centuries, the Spanish Royal family made it the European Summer destination. Historical and grand architecture plays a dominant role in building the captivating backdrop of the seaside city. Mansions align the shores of many beaches, as well as elegant art nouveau buildings, bridges and plazas remain as an integral part of San Sebastián. Sounds pretty amazing, right?

Surrounded by beaches and countryside, it’s clear why we’ve added San Sebastián to the Vacay travel guide, and what we think is the perfect destination accompanied with our new linen shirts for the ultimate European summer luxe look.
